Family Fun and Photos

Thanksgiving weekend is usually a full one around our place, as John’s birthday happens to correspond with it and usually entails at least one celebration, often two. This year we did the birthday thing in two batches again, but John’s family’s gathering was last weekend and at someone else’s house (thank you Heather & Bob!). My folks did their Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday, as per usual, which left Monday free. The weather, which has been foul bordering on miserable lately, co-operated and predicted a Monday filled with clouds, from whence would emerge a splendiferously sunny afternoon. At least, that’s how meteorologists should describe it.

John and I had planned to wander around barrens and take pictures of fall colour, Newfoundland-style. Friday night saw (heard?) a call from Heather purposing some sort of get-together of our mutual habitation units. Sounded good to us, so we agreed to merge the two plans and ended up at Cape Spear and Bowring Park (a study in contrasts).

A good time was had by all. Heather’s nefarious knee behaved itself relatively well and let her take cool pictures of Cape Spear and Bowring Park. I did likewise and covered the same topics (the cape and the park. It was interesting to see how each of us, given roughly the same selection of subject matter, ended up with some very different photos. There was a certain amount of overlap, of course, as you would expect, but they were by no means the same shots repeated.

The kids had a blast. Katherine talked all the next day about her time with Eleanor and Jean and has decided that if Jean and Eleanor are sisters, then she and Panda must be too. Poor Panda.

We played in the parks, had a great bit of fun and finished up with Thanksgiving Pizza (we gave thanks that none of us had to cook it). Rounded off a good weekend quite nicely.
