Katherine and Panda do a Jack O’Lantern

Hallowe’en went pretty well. Katherine and I did the pumpkin thing, as the photo shows. She was more interested in squishing pumpkin guts between her fingers than in helping to design the face.
She became a rather cute and scary Kangaroo later in the evening. I’m not sure about the scary part, but she insists that she was.
Trick or treating went well. Instead of “trick or treat,” she insisted on saying, “please?” Couldn’t really fault her for it, as it was indeed more polite.
All-in-all, it went well.

Lurching back a bit, I now remember more of my weekend. Sleep really does make the head grow firmer. Jean and I went to Paint ‘n Clay on Sunday afternoon. I normally am not a big fan of places that profess to provide people with a chance to make spectacular “works of art” that are all templates, stencils or exact duplicates, give or take, of a common pattern.
I make an exception for Paint ‘n Clay because, while they do have stencils, patterns and whatnot, they also give you the option of going ahead and doing your own thing. Now the molds could be somewhere limiting, but luckily they have a nice selection of platters, plates, bowls and tiles on which you can work your own ideas. So even if you’re not into making your own ceramics, you can do your own painting design and execution.
Of course, most people do the stuff that’s in the templates. Sigh.
We had a great time, though. A chance to chat and paint and bounce ideas around. The only glitch was something I didn’t notice until after. I had told John I’d meet him at my folks’ for supper after dropping Jean off. I looked at the clock at one point, realised that it was 5:40 and figured that we should finish up. What I didn’t realise was that the nig-nogs at the shop hadn’t adjusted the clock for daylight savings and we had another hour. I wasn’t about to be late, we weren’t running out of time and Jean probably wasn’t starving. Kicked myself afterwards, as I didn’t realise it until I got to my folks’. No harm done, though, as we had basically finished up anyway.
Must remember to pick up the pieces we did on Friday evening and drop Jean’s dog off to her.
