Why I migrated

I’ve been asked a couple of times now why I moved to WordPress from Blogger, so here it is:

Blogger:

  • ran like a slug on my old computer, frequently causing it to hiccough or pass out
  • was clumsy to use and often required you to jump through three steps to accomplish one action
  • didn’t have an easy setup for categorising posts

WordPress:

  • runs very nicely and doesn’t cause my computer to go into spasms
  • has everything you need to do what you need to do right there in front of you
  • has categories set up and has them customisable from the posting page (you can add them on the fly)
  • has a “save and continue writing” button
  • is downloadable to be used on private webspace, so that when I move this stuff to my own server or space, I don’t have to reformat everything
  • has a number of achronological pages or tabs that can be used to convey information that you don’t want lost as the days go by
  • has a feature allowing you to password a particular post, which could be useful for posting Xmas lists for family, for instance
  • allows multiple users, in case you like that idea

So basically that’s it. Blogger was clunky and WordPress is more streamlined and versatile. The only drawback thus far to WordPress is the limited templates – you have to use their template on their webspace and it doesn’t appear that you can modify it. When/if I move things to my own space, I’ll probably tweak them a bit.
