African or American?

Swallow. Or Sparrow, rather. Some sort of small bird. If you don’t get this reference, there’s no hope for you.

The trailer for Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man’s Chest is out. Looks like another rolicking good time, although I always have a difficult time with judging movies based on trailers, especially chopped up trailers that show you flickers of action from throughout the film. I can never tell if those are the high points, the lively points or the most colourful bits. It’s like judging a sentence by the reported number of spaces between words.

I’m trying to lower my expectations based on the fact that it’s a sequel, too. Although that really shouldn’t be a reason not to make a good movie, it seems that filmmakers see money before quality far too frequently and fail to make the connection of the latter leading to the former.

So we have to wait until July 7 to see if this one is as good as the last. Jerry Bruckheimer is producing again, Gore Verbinski is directing and Hans Zimmer is doing the music, so at least we can be assured that the tension will be good and the atmosphere effective. Let’s see if the plot proves as stable.

  1. Plot? Stable? What’s this? Just give us some good fun and scary moments and stuff. Oh, and Johnny Depp. My “expectations” aren’t real high, I suppose, and knowing there’s a third makes me feel fine about the possibility of Temple of Doom syndrome. Looking forward to it, though.
