Today…

Today I’m “shagging around”* with some dyes, doing layered dips to suss out some different colour combinations and effects for further use. I’m working with combed woolen top  (that’s Falkland) for my test swatches, but I have some washed Shetland fleece to which I’d like to apply the results for a pattern that I have…

Eggses, precious

Today we decided to decorate some eggs. A year or two ago, I bought a complete pysanky kit (dyes, waxes, kistkas and all the paraphernalia) at the Craft Council Seconds Sale, thinking it would be a fun activity for me and Katherine sometime. Boy was it ever! We blew the eggs first, which is atypical….

Snow day

Today was a snow day here in St. John’s, Newfoundland. We got about 25cm (that’s a little shy of a foot, for those among you who are of the Imperial Forces) in the span of around 12 hours, with high winds and treacherous driving conditions. Sane people stayed home, baked bread, made chili and did…

Shop Update

Here’s a quick photo-rich post of items now in the shop! Now I’m off again to the design table!

Catching up

I’m a little behind in these blog posts, for which I humbly apologize. It seems that when I’m really and truly busy, I have little time for sitting at the computer. When I’m really and truly creating and churning ideas about, I’m more inclined towards pen and paper for working out kinks, sketching ideas and…

Shop Update

Katherine helped me to make some more Dragon Skin colours and they’re now up and available in the shop. The Merino wool makes these particularly nice to the touch!

Dragon Fibres

Katherine and I spent a day of bouncing off each other and driving each other nuts yesterday and in doing so learned two very important things. Shop Update

I just popped another few bumps of fibre up on the SeaStrands Etsy Shop. Clicking on the specific image will take you right to it in the shop.

Catching up on paperwork

While I take a bit of time to catch up on report writing, report reading, text revisions, prep for tax time and a myriad of other mundane details, I leave you with some eye candy and a splash of colour for this wintry day. Once I get through the paperwork, I’ll be hitting the spinning…

A splash of colour

I’ve been showing you dribs and drabs of what I’ve been working on, but now I’m actually starting to put together some successful final results and the colours are just plain fun. So here’s a little Saturday night colour for you! The results of some of this week’s work:

A very short post

Cats. Do not. Belong. In a dye studio. ‘Nuff said. Note: VIM with bleach completely removes dye from laminate flooring, some painted walls (careful not to strip off the paint too), vinyl kitchen flooring, laminate kitchen counter-top, phones, human flesh, plastic window frames, white metal ovens, sinks, glass and even sealed wood.

If I could save time in a bottle……

But there never seems to be enough time To do the things you want to do Once you find them. – Jim Croce I spent today in meetings and doing paperwork for the Craft Council. Since becoming Vice Chair (which entails attending both Executive and Board meetings) I appear to be spending an increasingly large…
